Bashar al-Assad will not be able to survive for long and should co-operate with rebels, officials say
Al-Assad's uncle, Rifaat al-Assad told the BBC that the level of violence on the streets was too high for his nephew to survive.
The problems are now general to all parts of Syria – there are no places that have escaped violence - so it is unlikely and not get killed. Some officials say that he should stay and peace out and co-operate with a new government and offer the experience he has. Call for a cease-fire and call for peace. A win-win solution, they believe is the best.
However is it really going to work if they stop the internal war, act like everything's fine, then work with Al-Assad– the cruel leader they tried to kill? No way, it won't happen. The rebels now are not going to rest with just a promise to let them rule– but not completely. They are determined to take Al-assad down. This win-win solution concept is completely useless, almost a naive thought, my opinion.
Besides I think Al-assad deserves more than that. At least he should resign, for messing up the country. Syria deserves its freedom.
Communist Cuba marks Good Friday with public holiday
Communist Cuba marked Easter as a public holiday today, Good Friday, for the first time in decades. It was requested by Pope Benedict's visit to the country last week. Religious holidays in Cuba, a communist country, were cancelled after the 1959 revolution, and fewer than 10% of Cubans are practising Catholics. Nonetheless, the Church is the most influential organisation outside the Communist government. The fact that the Cuban government has actually granted the Pope's request shows the level of respect the Cuban government has to the Church. A service at Havana Cathedral was broadcast live on Cuban television too.
This actually shows that Cuba could be starting to open up to the world, as Cubans welcomed the idea of a religious holiday and ritual. Some believe that there could be this may not be the only religious holiday. This could be a sign that Cuba is opening up; just like China.
