The titanic, Taliban And Dinosaurs

IS THIS REALLY NECESSARY?

Everybody knows about the Titanic, because of (unfortunately) the movie by James Cameron and that horrible song “My heart will go on” by Celine Dion. Recently however, the titanic is once again in the news, and not just because the movie is due for a reboot next month or so. But before I go on I thought I’d just share with you some facts about the ship and why it was so famous.

The RMS Titanic, a British passenger liner (and the largest built at the time), also known as the “unsinkable ship” (oh how ironic) was en route to Manhattan in 1912 when it struck an iceberg and eventually sunk to the bottom of the Atlantic ocean. Which is obviously a huge waste, considering that 1500 lives were lost and it cost $7.5 million to build.

I don’t understand how it hit the iceberg in the first place, considering it received 6 warnings before it actually did. And it’s not like the ship was travelling at a fast speed.

Anyway, UN has agreed to protect not only the remnants of the Titanic, but all shipwrecks that are aged 100 and above. The general director of UNESCO said that the RMS Titanic had anchored with it the memories of the 1500 lives lost in the tragedy.

While I do think that it is important to preserve history, I think this is a little unnecessary of the UN, especially since preserving it would mean that it would need to be repainted and injected with chemicals to kill the bacterium that is slowly eroding away its surface. According to some deep-sea archaeologists, this would cost around half a million dollars. Although the Titanic is an icon, we shouldn’t we clinging on to the decadence of the evident past.

ANTI-TALIBAN COMMANDER KILLED.

Nazik Mir, a member of the Afghan Local Police was killed yesterday in what was believed to be a Taliban suicide attack. This is incident follows a similar one that took place in Faryab that killed 12 people on the 5th of April.

To say that the Taliban disliked Mr. Mir is a grave understatement. This of course is due to the fact that was the one stopping them from operating in the area.

It has become very obvious that the Taliban are targeting the Afghan Local Police. I say this because on the 30th of March, A member of the AFL (who was actually a Taliban infiltrator) killed nine of his colleagues while they slept. I think it’s safe to assume that their recent rampage is due to the recent Arab spring revolutions. And once again, forces led by NATO have failed to do anything helpful. One should wonder why they even bother to intervene.

THE T-REX ISN’T THE LARGEST LAND ANIMAL TO ROAM THE EARTH?

Recent archaeological digs in China have unearthed fossils that have led to some confusion. Though I wouldn’t say it challenges the paradigms we once believed in, it certainly does make us question them though. The dinosaurs whom which these fossils belong to are estimated to have weighed a whopping 1.4 tones as an adult, making them larger than their purported cousin, the T-rex.

To make things weirder, they were apparently covered in feathers. Although not uncommon, one does have to admit that it conjures up the image of a giant turkey or emu. However, these magnificent creatures are awesome nonetheless.

Recently a lot of new discoveries have been made in the field of paleontology and I think it’s safe to say it’s indirectly because of global warming, what with all the weathering of rocks and stuff. I this has been shoved down our throats at every possible turn, I think more has to be done to help get our planet out of the shit it’s in.

  2. Thank you Serena. You might want to re-direct him to look at some more relevant articles.

Kah Hao, how in the world is the first and third article related to debate? Yes, they're useful in terms of general knowledge, and shouldn't be part of the news but rather the 'Sharing Funhouse.'

Have you been sleeping under a rock? I have told you so many times that you should choose something more relevant to debate and you still pretend you don't know anything.

And for the love of knowledge, stop focusing on the Titanic! It's a shipwreck which got famous because of a movie! There are other more severe shipwrecks that are not given as much attention.
